When you pull up to that 75,000 sq. ft. building that sells flooring material you must think of this, that building cannot function without steep OVERHEAD EXPENSES.
I installed carpet for 25 yrs. and my last 15 yrs was at one of the most HIGH END STORES in the mahoning county area. What I found funny was that I started researching carpet prices in the local area and found that the same, identical carpet they sold for $31.00 a yard was available at a little known 4,500 sq. ft. store in Youngstown, Ohio called DJV Supplies at $15.00 a yard. It had the same factory warranty, the same manufacturer, everything was the same.
This is what I would call a MOM & POP SHOP, it is a throw back to when service was more important then how fancy the store looked, they are in it for the long run.
The only difference was that it does not cost them $1,000.00 a day in utility bills, employee wages, stock inventory, etc.
Believe it or not, this expense is passed on to the customer, all the fancy lighting, flooring, furniture, professional sales people, etc. This is all passed on to you, (the consumer) in the price of the flooring material you buy there.
There are only a handful of carpet manufacturer's and all the flooring stores buy from these main manufacturer's, how they come up with the price to sell it at depends on THEIR OVERHEAD, HOW MUCH DO WE NEED TO MAKE OFF THIS ROLL OF CARPET TO COVER OUR BILLS.
I get alot of inside information on how other stores are doing in this area and, needless to say, it isn't good.
Just remember one thing, when you buy from the so-called HIGH END STORES, YOUR WARRANTY GOES WITH THAT STORE. If that store closes, you are last on their list to take care of any problem with your purchase. Now don't get me wrong, you will still have a warranty for your flooring product, you just won't have the store you bought it from to give you any help or support.
Give DJV'S a shot and get to know and learn a little more about the founders of DJV Carpet and Supplies!
Salvatore Vecchione--(founder-semi-retired).
He has been in the carpet selling business for over 40 yrs. He is "OLD SCHOOL" when it comes to customer service and customer relations. After being abruptly layed off from the flooring & flooring tool supply company he worked at for a very long time, he opened his own store.
For over 3 years he had this little 4,500 square foot building that had no signs of any kind or advertising on the outside of the building to tell what they did so far as a business.
This is how much respect and TRUST his old clients had in him, the store survived but did not break any financial records, he made a living.
IF YOU OWN A BUSINESS AND YOU ARE READING THIS, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN WHEN I ASK, HOW CAN YOU RUN A BUSINESS WITHOUT ADVERTISING?
SALVATORE VECCHIONE DID JUST THAT. THIS IS UNHEARD OF.
He told his old customers where his new building was and also all the flooring sub-contractors that have known him for a very long time that he opened a little store and was selling tools also.
Dan Vecchione--(owner);
He was with Sal from the very start up of the business. He went to YSU for business and marketing.
This Father & Son Team has made what DJV Carpet & Supplies Inc. is today, a well respected business where you get old fashion service. When times were a lot classier when it came to customer relations.
Just as people are afraid to buy cars from certain manufacturer's right now due to warranty issues, so should you be concerned about your flooring purchase's warranty.
Give this SMALL company a try at least and you can judge for yourself. If you already have a particular carpet, tile, etc, that you have already picked out, just bring in the sample or all the information about it with you and they can tell you what they can get it for.
They also have bonded and insured professional installers that they use, or you can use your own.
